Getting Started

This guide walks new and returning players through the main features of CatCraft.
Choosing a Realm
Welcome to CatCraft. To get started, choose a Realm. All Realms play the same, but each has its own Overworld, Nether and End, and each opened on a different date.
- Older Realms. These are easier to get started on, because the market is cheaper and you can get items and blocks for fewer diamonds.
- The newest Realm. A good choice if you like to stay up to date.
Starting your adventure
When you join a Realm, you start at spawn. To reach the main Overworld, walk straight ahead to the wilderness portal and go through it. You can also type /wild or /rtp and pick the Overworld option on the left.
CatCraft has two Overworlds.
- The main Overworld. This is where you build your base, your farms and anything you want to keep.
- The Resource world. This is for gathering resources, and it resets every two months.
Nights pass at least twice as fast as normal in both Overworlds, so you can get back to building and gathering sooner.
Surviving
Once you’re in the main Overworld, start by collecting wood. With enough wood you can craft your first tools and work up to stone ones. Then build a small house to stay in until you start exploring.
Tip. Chop the bottom log of a tree with an axe to fell the whole tree at once, and sneak while mining ores to mine the whole vein. See Mining.
Claiming
Once you’ve built your first house, claim it to keep it safe. A claim stops other players from building in your base or taking things from it. Griefing and stealing are against the server rules.
To claim your land, follow the steps in the Claims guide.
On the Red and Green Realms, unclaimed land that nobody visits for 30 days is restored to fresh terrain to keep the world tidy. Claims are never touched, so always claim your builds. See Keeping the world fresh.
Setting a home
Homes let you teleport straight back to your base. You can set two homes by default, plus one bed home.
- Type /sethome [Homename] into the chat. For example, to set a home called ‘base’, type /sethome base.
- To teleport back to your base, type /home base.
If you die, type /back in chat to return to where you died. See Death & Item Recovery for more.
Get free rewards
Voting for CatCraft helps the server grow, and every vote gets you a reward.
- Every vote gives you a vote crate key, and you have the chance to win at the monthly top voters’ leaderboard.
- Your 9th vote of the day also lets you join the piñata party at spawn.
- You can vote on each website once every 12 hours.
To vote, open each link at https://catcraft.net/vote and enter your Minecraft username on the site.
Note. Bedrock Edition players need to add an underscore before their name, and some vote sites only accept Java Edition names.
Once you’ve voted, keep an eye on the server’s vote count. When it reaches 150, the piñata party begins at spawn, where you can hit the piñata for free rewards and a chance at a CatGod Crate Key. See Voting & Piñata for how it works.
Mining
For lots of common ores, start at the Cat Canyon Mines. You’ll find coal, iron, gold and even some diamonds. Type /mine in chat to get there.
Intermediate steps
When you’re ready to upgrade your gear, visit the CatCraft market.
- Type /market to go there.
- Look around the shops for good deals.
- To buy an item, right-click the sign on the chest shop. It uses the diamonds in your inventory.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, use /search to find a shop that sells it.
Diamond riches
After a few weeks of mining and farming, you’ll probably have plenty of spare resources. If you have enough diamonds, you can open a shop and earn more. Players can buy from your shop even while you’re offline.
Stall prices vary by stall and Realm.
- Red and Blue Realms. Most stalls cost 45 or 60 diamonds.
- Green Realm. Most stalls cost 180 or 240 diamonds.
See the Market guide for how to buy a shop.
Clans
Once you’ve been playing for a while, you might like to join or create a clan. A clan is a group of friends with its own private clan chat.
To start or join a clan, type /clan. See Clans for the full guide.
PvP
To test your skills against other players, type /pvp to go to the PvP arena. Elytras can’t be taken into the PvP world, so store yours before you go.
End-game
Once you’ve settled in, there are a few longer goals for players who want more of a challenge.
Collecting Cat Crate keys
Difficulty. Medium
Mine emerald, diamond and gold ore, and with some luck you’ll find a cat crate key. See Cat crate keys.
Pets
Difficulty. Hard
Buy a cosmetic pet that follows you around with diamond blocks from /petshop. See Pets.
CatGods
Difficulty. Ultra Hard
Collect every CatGod piece and show them off in your trophy room. Very few players have ever completed this. See Catgod.
Start a new adventure
For a fresh start, try one of the other Realms and make new friends there. Your progress on your first Realm stays as it is. Just log in there at least every 30 days so your market shop isn’t reset.
